This past weekend was a blurry blast!
Friday Kay and I tromped around Hongdae and had a great time. Of course we had drinks at our fav Ho Bar and then off to Papa Gorillas for a night a drunken dancing. The whole night is a blur of shots and dancing on tables. It was craziness.
The next night we went to the Lantern festival/parade and it was so beautiful! People in the parade gave Kay, Eve, and I lanterns and we were jubilant to say the least. All of the lanterns and people in traditional Korean dress were just beautiful. So glad we found out about it last minute and went! Of course there were a large amount of foreigners so we were video taped and had pictures taken of us fairly often haha.
After the parade us three girls headed out to Monkey Beach! Ah the insanity! Apparently every Saturday they have a dance contest and this is something not to miss! Dirty dancing, boys taking their shirts off, awkward Korean/white dance moves. It was truly love. Eve was chatting up a cute bartender and he ended up giving us all shots and then I made eyes with the muscly boy that won the dance contest so we got shots from him also. Next I know we’re all on the dance floor and we just keep getting these magical shots in our hands and are throwing them down like water. We danced the night away and then our drunk asses somehow managed to find a chicken place on the way to catching a cab. Ughhh it was sooo yummy.
No idea when I got home either night. Was hungover both mornings. Worth it?…. definitely!
Oh ya! I just booked my ticket/accommodation for the Boryeong Mud Festival! So pumped. It’s basically spring break plus an immense amount of mud ;)
Okay I finally have time to tell you all about Alabama =)
Date #1
We met near Itaewon and went to Craftworks for dinner. I was happy when I saw him and any nervousness instantly went away. We drank wine and beer, had delicious burgers, and talked about our travels around the world. There was never a dull moment and conversation was easy (thank goodness after my blind date from hell). He was such a gentleman and even pulled out my chair when we sat down. My heart may have melted a little =P I was also impressed when he grabbed the bill with no hesitation. I always offer, but I hate the awkward check dance that happens on many of my first dates. It was really cute when we were walking to the lounge he made a joke over the guy that asked to hold my hand and then just grabbed mine =). Needless to say I liked his confidence =P After we couldn’t find a smoothie place so we went to a lounge to chat over drinks. A lady came in selling flowers and he bought me a bouquet and my face may have turned 3 shades of red haha. At the end of the night he hailed me a cab and we shared a simple peck on the lips. It may have been the perfect first date.
Date #2
During date #1, Alabama confessed over drinks that he had been eager to see me because Friday he was leaving for 3 weeks to the Philippines. We had hit it off so well we planned to see each other the next day and hang out one last time before he departed. He came to my apartment for dinner and I prepared a feast of fried tofu, kimchi pot stickers, and dukbokki. Everything turned out delicious (okay I didn’t make the dukbokki, but I cooked everything else!). We messed around play fighting with each other for a bit and then went to walk along the Han river. The bridges were lit up and it was such a beautiful night. We stopped near one of the bridges, stood on the bottom cable of the fence, and just stared into the black water while chatting the night away. As we walked along the Han hand in hand it reminded me of how nice it is to be in a good relationship. I like doing those cute things and when he asked if he’d get a third date there was no resisting. After a lovely night I walked him to the subway for his long ride home and we shared another simple yet sweet peck on the lips. When he got back he’d only have a few hours to pack before setting off for the airport. Kinda bummed his trip had to fall right after we met.
However I’ve been so impressed with his gentlemanly ways. I’m used to a guy trying to maul me and get in my pants on the first date, so this was a nice change. He’s so sweet and always tells me how much he loves my eyes and smile and that’s what really got him. I love when he tells me how nervous he was to talk to me and continually flatters me. He’s well balanced between confident and sweet and I can’t wait for him to return. We already have plans for a hiking date and a trip to the aquarium =)
So Itaewon turned out to be a success on Saturday night. Kay and I went to Vatos for dinner and let me tell you, the Mexican food there is amazing! Definitely the best Mexican I’ve had in awhile. Check it out!
After dinner we went to Wolfhound and starting tossing back the drinks. We were having a great time and it felt like we were back in the states. After a bit two boys approached us and we gave them the okay to sit down. Mine was pretty cute, Kay’s was a bit older and balding (sorry Kay!). Alabama & I hit it off immediately. We chatted and played this number game that I had learned in Hawaii for most of the night. After so many drinks we were forehead to forehead playing the number game (you play with your hands and touch the other persons so it’s natural to lean into each other). And low and behold we ended up exchanging sweet little kisses back and forth. And not the gross PDA kind, the soft caring (no tongue) kind. I was pretty drunk (I normally don’t kiss boys at the bar), but he was really cute, sweet, and not a creep haha. We exchanged numbers when he left and the southern gentleman that he is, he apologized the next morning for “coming on so strong” and that he wanted to see me again. I’m happy to say we have an official date for tomorrow and we’ll be meeting for dinner after work =). He actually lives way south, so bonus points because he’s traveling about 2 hours to have dinner with me ;)
About Alabama: Obvi he reigns from Alabama and he mom is some kind of pilot (I think she used to be in the air force or something). He’s currently in uni, but is over here visiting his mom until August and taking online courses. A bit younger than myself, but I’m starting to learn that a younger well traveled man is much wiser than an older stick in the mud. He’s fairly well traveled and about a half year ago was in a 3 year relationship. I’m sure I’ll have heaps more to fill you in on tomorrow, but that’s all I’ve got for now.
Wish me luck!
Last night my hagwon had a staff dinner at VIPS and yummm it was delicious. I had an enormous amount of mango, smoked salmon, and sizzling steak. Stuffed myself silly. So much for the 2 pounds I’ve lost doing hot yoga.
Later in the night Kay and I headed to Hongdae for a few chill drinks. We had one at Eden and if you haven’t been there you should check it out. It is so strange! There is a tree in the middle with Christmas bulbs all over it, a plethora of disco balls, and velvet couches. It kind of looks like the inside of a genie bottle haha. After we headed over to our favorite Ho bar. We have become quite the regulars here, however I was pleasantly surprised to meet a new bartender.
As he was strolling by our table I just had to make a comment about his oversized Chanel necklace. Something along the lines of “What is this??” He then told me his work was something in fashion design and then I impulsively felt the need to inform him it was bad fashion haha. The next time he came back he had taken off the necklace and told me I he took it off cause I said it was bad and he was hurt. Awwww lol it was kinda cute/funny/sad. That thing was terrible though!
Let’s just say Kay wasn’t in the highest of spirits and our lovely bartender noticed. He brought us a bowl of peaches and said it would cheer her up cause she looked pissed haha. He was a sweetheart and when we left he said to make sure we come back and see him next weekend. Check check! I love the bartenders there. Always so cute and friendly =)
Tonight Kay, Eve (Kay’s friend), and I will be haunting the streets of Itaewon. Hopefully it doesn’t prove to be a bust considering I’ve never really partied there on the weekend. Craving a solid buzz and some cute men ;)
I was teaching a small elementary class when suddenly Amy yells “Ahhh!”
Me: What?
Amy: Your eyes are scary.
Me: What? Why?
Amy: They are blue.
Me: Why is that scary?
Amy: I have black eyes. Korean’s have black eyes. Your eyes are blue. They are scary!
Me: hahahah
I love you Korea.
